What Once Was Old...

Regular visitors to my site and it's attached blog will no doubt have noticed a decided change in the style of designs that are currently coming together.  I have always been attracted to and fond of the design and lifestyle of the modernist movement of the 1950's and 60's.  The cars and the music are the two aspects that most people remember but it's the houses of Eichler and Eames, Neutra and Lautner that really stand out to me.
Many of these architect designed homes were stunningly captured by the great photographer Julius Schulman.  Many people would remember these iconic images captured by a man with a true eye for architecture...

The lifestyle of the era these shots were taken in were my inspiration for the development of a design style that captures this laid-back atmosphere.  Long low roof lines, crisp clean lines and the connection to the outdoors all seem to be elements that fit in with the Queensland climate and lifestyle.

One last classic example of this fantastic design style is the house of Frank Sinatra in Palm Springs.  With it's piano shaped swimming pool, this was the epitome of martini modern cool.

Frank had a few friends back in the 50's that he shared his 'weekender' with.  Frank, Dean and Sammy did it with style and a smile!
