Movie Night! Architecture Style!

Over the years there have been a few movies that showcase the architecture profession and the buildings that architects create.  Some are even centered around buildings as their primary plot/setting.
The classic architecture movie would have to be The Fountainhead starring Gary Cooper as the non-conforming architect Howard Roark.

The comedic genius of Steve Martin as Newton Davis in the film Housesitter is pleasantly offset with glimpses throughout the movie of the house he designed in Dobbs Mill.  The actual house built for the movie was designed by the New York firm of Trumbull & Associates and, unfortunately, was dismantled after filming.

And yes, there is a few "chick flicks" showcasing architects and their profession with decidedly romantic undertones and plots.  Tom Hanks and Keanu Reeves have both lent themselves to the role of the architect in the movies 'Sleepless in Seattle' and 'The Lakehouse' respectively.

Whilst movies certainly lend some welcome exposure to the architecture profession, it is the inspiration gleaned from these films that let the casual observer think about their own environment and, hopefully, appreciate the design around them that architects and designers provide.
